The women's cross country team placed third in a well-fought race at the Bradley Classic on Friday. The team was coming off of a few rough weeks, and traveled to Bradley instead of competing in Pre-Nationals at home.

The Sycamores were one of fifteen teams to compete in the 6K race, marking the first time the women's team ran a 6K this season.

The team scored 127 points total for their third-place spot, losing only to Iowa State who came in first with 51 points and rival Northern Iowa who scored 94 putting them in second.

Drake University (136) and Saint Louis University (139) rounded out the top five for the meet.

"Going to Bradley helped us work on racing," senior Heather Stembridge said. "We got to run against two very good conference schools, Northern Iowa and Drake. Northern Iowa beat us but we beat Drake by a couple points."

"The team did better but we still need to work on getting our pack closer together. It is something we need to work on to have a chance of getting top three at conference." Stembridge said.

Individual results still put senior Heather Stembridge at the head of the pack for the girls placing third for the meet and first for ISU with a time of 21:34, a personal best for Stembridge. Junior Kayla Alexander finished the race in 15th overall with time of 22:10. Freshman Kacie Klem came in third for ISU place and 18th overall with a time 22:10 for her first 6K. Another personal best was run by sophomore Allison Malone who ended up 45th overall and fourth for the team with a time of 22:57. To finish of the Sycamores' top five was junior Emily Pugh who placed 50th with a time of 23:01.

"I feel the meet overall went very well. We set out hoping to be one of the top teams there and we accomplished that," Klem said.
